Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

And the girl wins!

Late this spring, one of my many projects was to make a quilt for Doug's brother's new baby. Unlike many expectant parents today, they opted to wait until the birth to find out the sex of their baby. Dang! That means I either had to wait to make a quilt, or guess. I don't do green and yellow, mint and lilac. It's either boy or girl.

So I went with the odds. They were 5:1 in favor of a boy. Pretty good odds. I picked blue and red, green and yellow and planned a sort of nine-square style quilt. I was very happy with it. It's just what I would want if I had a new bouncy baby boy.

You know where this is going, don't you? Yes, instead of Michael John, they had Olivia Anne. And I started a new quilt.
Now that it's all finished, I'm glad I guessed. They have a new girl, and a pretty pink quilt to wrap her in, and the bouncing baby boy of a deployed soldier gets a new quilt. I'm mailing it today.

Olivia's quilt. I love the colors.

Random squares -- my favorite style.
I used mostly fabrics that I had --
usually Peach's old clothes,
and a few bits that I bought to pull it together.

I wrapped some new pink clothes inside.

The boy quilt -- a nine-square style.
Made from my boys' old shirts and a few new bits.
Off in the mail today.

  1. What is up with this new trend of "we don't want to know until the baby arrives"? I am with you...I don't do green and yellow!

I love your quilts! That's it. I am going to have to try one. I always thought they were too complicated to even think of attempting. Do you have any helpful hints, books, websites, etc....

Do you machine quilt or hand quilt?

  3. Is there no end to your talents? Those are gorgeous, I love how you used old clothes too, what a great way to use things up.

A friend of mine back in the states was having a boy. It was confirmed on three separate ultrasounds, so they decorated the room with John Deer and Tonka Trucks, had all the boy clothes bought, washed and ironed and it ended up being a girl! Yikes!
