New Bread Recipe
I tried a new white bread recipe this week and it is the best sandwich bread I've ever made. My kids are white bread kids. I can't get them to switch. But, I feel better about them eating white bread made from scratch instead of store-bought. And this makes a great sandwich. The recipe almost could not be easier.
This recipe requires the use of a food processor. If you don't have one, put one on your Christmas list.
Rich White Bread
3 cups flour
2 T sugar
1 pkg Rapid Rise yeast
1 - ¼ t salt
3 T butter
1 egg
1 cup warm water
Place metal blade in food processor bowl. Add flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Process 5 to 10 seconds. Add butter and egg. Begin processing and slowly pour water through feed tube until dough forms ball, about 10 to 15 seconds. Continue processing for 60 seconds. Carefully remove bread from bowl and place on lightly floured surface. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap and rest for 10 minutes.
Roll, or hand press dough to 12 x 7 rectangle. Beginning at short end, roll up tightly as for jelly roll. Place, seam side down, in greased 9 x 5 loaf pan. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled 30 to 45 minutes. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; let cool on wire rack.
(NOTE: I don't use Rapid Rise yeast, I just let the first rise go for 30 miutes, instead of 10.)
