Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Yarn Along

Joining Ginny for a quick Yarn Along post.

I haven't officially finished any thing, but I wanted to report back since I asked you about knitting at the RCIA retreat in my last Yarn Along. I did not feel comfortable pulling out my knitting. One reason was, it was not a huge group -- seven students and their sponsors and a few team members. Often we were sitting in chairs arranged in a circle, so it would have been very noticeable that I was not entirely focused on what was going on in the circle. Also, a reader emailed me after I asked what your thoughts were and made a good point. These college kids were probably having a hard time leaving their electronic devices in their pockets, and I wanted to set a good example (thanks, Janet!).

I was able to knit a bit during meal breaks and bathroom breaks and before we started. Just a wee bit of scarf, which is a great pattern for knitting without giving it too much thought. I will keep it in my knitting bag for doctor's offices and the dance studio to keep busy. It may take me  a year to finish, but a year will have passed anyway, might as well have a new scarf.

I did finish one fingerless glove and cast on the second. It knitted up pretty quickly though I admit I did my own thing when it came to the fingers (can you tell?). The instructions made no sense at the time (knitting the fingers of a glove at the dance studio is probably not a good idea) and so I just made some notes and worked out the numbers on my own. I haven't blocked them, but I think they will look much prettier when I do. I'll get back to ya when I do.

I am still reading Stella Bain by Anita Shreve, but my eyes can barely stay open at bedtime to get much reading in. These long winter nights just put me right to sleep (the book is not boring, I'm just sleepy). Yesterday, on the feast of St. Felix, Faith and I enjoyed this wonderful book, St. Felix and the Spider, written by Dessi Jackson and illustrated by Lydia Kadar-Kallen, the lovely daughter of Kimberlee at Pondered in My heart. The illustrations alone are worth owning this book, but the story is very sweet as well.

  1. I still need to get the Felix and Spider book. Budget is tight lately!

I understand about the knitting on retreat...

    Love the fingerless glove.

And I like to have a project for those waiting times. I got restless while in Cleveland without something to work on my hands.

  3. Cracking up at the idea of trying to do any kind of accurate work at a dance studio....probably the same as when I try to get work done at the theater.
How'a the Anita Shreve book? Worth requesting at my library?

  4. I've missed reading about your days these past months! That's wonderful that you are sponsoring. I remember having that same feeling (I am a fellow introvert) when my husband went throught the RCIA process years ago. It's all worth it in the end.

  5. Hi Suzie, I'm glad to see you again. I tried to leave a comment on your blog but had a lot of trouble. I kept get an error message of sorts. Hopefully it just didn't like me and it's not a problem for every one.

  6. Barb, it's a good book, but I just can't read it for extended periods at night. One day I'll be able to read during the day again!
