Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

(6/18)...streaming

Upside down. My life has been turned.

Incomplete sentences they are, but right now I'm not sure I feel capable of complete sentences.

Last week Doug decided that we absolutely had to get new floors in our downstairs (minus the family room) NOW. It was something he had talked about but it was really just talk..."someday I would really like to have wood floors in here."

When my husband decides something needs to be done, he doesn't stop until it's done. Which is good...sometimes. But he is not always very pleasant about how he goes about getting the job done (yes, I am complaining). Everything else in the house comes to a halt, and when he needs me or one of the kids to do something, he means drop what you're doing and do it now. And he raises his voice a lot. The kids look to me like "what did I do?" and the pets are in a state of confusion.

So our house has been turned upside down. We brought the wood home today in boxes -- 31 of them. The furniture is in the middle of the room or moved to another room entirely. Yesterday I packed up most of the contents of the china cabinet and today I finished the china cabinet and the kitchen island. Tomorrow I have to pack up two pantries. We have a lot of stuff. I love having my mother's china and stemware, and my mother-in-law's stemware and serving dishes, but they sure were a lot to pack up! And I think I could feed a small third world country with the contents of two pantries.

Doug has started tearing out the baseboards and the edges of the carpet to get to the tack strips. It's a huge job. In the kitchen he will have to tear out baseboards and toe kicks and the laminate floor.

On Monday, a professional installer will come and lay the floor in three days. I am hoping by the end of the next week everything will be right-side-up. In the meantime I might be MIA.

But I promise to come back with that post on Call the Midwife...soon.

Sounds like a crazy time for you. At least you have someone else doing it. My husband does all the work himself. Took forever!!!

  2. I think Doug is grieving. But I wish my husband had that urge to replace all our carpeting with hardwoods NOW!

I need to watch s. 2 of Call the Midwife, but I am happily immersed in s. 2 of Lark Rise to Candleford at the moment!

  3. Oh, I get so overwhelmed by having such projects as your floor go on around me. I can empathize.

And I wish there were a new episode of Call the Midwife every night all year round... 365 programs a year! Would I get tired of it? Don't think so!!!! I'll be looking for your post!

  4. Oh,dear! I'm sorry you're in such chaos. It's hard enough to function on a summer schedule without navigating through work sites and wondering where needed stuff is. But it will all be worth it when it's done. I hope. Right? ~ Rosemary

  5. Oh, poor you! I don't like when the house or my life is turned upside down either! :) Just think how beautiful the floors will be when it's all done. My first thought was...just take a week long vacation and return when it's all done. :)

  6. This is what always gives me pause about home improvement projects. With all these little kids under foot I don't know if I could handle a major mess/disruption right now . . . . but then I think about how desperately we need to replace some key areas of flooring and I think I may just have to put up and shut up. Hopefully your new floors will be gleaming and totally worth it!

  7. Sorry you're having a hard week! Davey can be a bear sometimes during a project, too, but we're mostly able to keep each other in check. ;-)

I did that to Davey, though, in February - announced out of the blue that the living room must be redone right-this-minute. It took five weeks of concentrated work and a lot of cash, but it's really nice. It went from being a room I never use to one I hate to leave, so... all good!

  9. Barb, your reader that said your husband is grieving is really onto something.
Years ago, my husband lost his mother AND his father within a period of 2 weeks. There is never a good time to lose a parent; it's life-changing. My husband launched into preparing his parents' home to sell. He was almost manic about it.
Time and the fact that our older daughter and her family asked if they could live in Granny and Gramps' house while their new house was being finished calmed things down. I will pray for peace for your husband.

  11. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on "Call the Midwife." I've only seen a few episodes, but I am not sure what I think about it ... Good luck with the floor! It'll be so nice once it's installed!! Try to keep that in the front of your mind.

Did you get my email? :-)
