Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

(10/12)....streaming

All week I tried to get back here to post. First Ginny's Yarn Along went past, and then Elizabeth's Needle and thREAD. I just couldn't get my act together. Life seems so very fragmented right now. There just is not much time for blogging. In fact, I am thinking of closing my food blog permanently. I enjoy blogging about food, but it seems that spot on the web is just another google hit for the most part. I don't think most of the people who find me know me or care to. Kind of defeats the purpose. I want someone to come and sit with me while I cook, and chat about nothing in particular.

Since I didn't get here in time for the weekly yarn and sewing links, I'll catch up now.

I finished the Peapod green socks and I have yet to block them. I'll come back and post a finished picture. They turned out very nicely. I noticed I had a really sore right elbow earlier in the week and tried to remember where I had cracked my arm, when I noticed that when I used my hand, it hurt my elbow. That could not be from a bump or bruise. I finally realized it was knitter's elbow. I think those green socks did me in.

So I cast on another pair, for my mom this time, just to really make it sore. Just kidding, actually it's a little better I think because I hardly knitted at all Wednesday or Thursday. I think it got so sore not from actual knitting but from pulling the socks over the connection on the circular needles. Knitting two socks at a time is a lot of pulling over bumps. I am using Knitpicks nickel circulars size 0. Anyone have a solution for getting the stitches over the bumps more easily? I have to keep the sock stitches pretty tight, but I feel like most of my energy knitting socks is spent pulling the stitches over the bumps and untangling the yarn. I am going to start a hat for my friend Gina and take a break from the socks.

I love this yarn. It's merino wool and cashmere, and the color is Flamingo. It should make a nice soft hat for my friend Gina's pretty little head.

Last week I sent off a baby quilt to this little man. He is so cute and spunky looking. I loved working on that quilt, because the colors are so autumnal. And those little woodland animals are sweet.

These pictures were taken when I was pinning it to quilt.

Aren't they cute little friends?

I have some skirt fabric for both Faith and I, and since the temps today may not get to 55 degrees, I think I need to get some fall/winter skirts made this weekend.

Faith and I are fighting colds that we have had almost all week. She is coughing, and my nose is completely stuffed for five days now. One of those bratty school kids (my own, I think the college kid) brought it home and suffered for a day or two. My immune system is not what it used to be.

~~~~~
I am also working on a chain bracelet for my friend Kelly, and have six scapulars in the queue, as well as four St. Michael chaplets, a St. Andrew chaplet, and a really special project I talk about below.
I just mailed away a wire-wrapped Seven Sorrows Chaplet and a pair of Miraculous Medal earrings.
I love those amazonite beads.
 I love those medals.
I love, I love, I love. {wink}
I also have the beautiful pearls pictured below, which a lovely woman sent me to make a tenner for her daughter and niece, and a five decade rosary for herself. These are her dear departed mother's pearls.
Her mother's name was Barbara Ann, so I feel like I have a heavenly friend to be with me while I craft these sacramental treasures from the pearls her beloved gave her. I feel very blessed to be able to do such a favor.
It almost breaks my heart to cut this string of pearls apart. I take solace in the fact that they will actually be used for prayer when I am finished.
There surely is no shortage of projects around here. If only I could clone myself and get them all done quickly. And this has been quite a crafty post. I apologize to those of you readers who are not crafty. I'll try to come back tomorrow and give you an update on our medical issues, which should be just as boring. {wink}
Have a great Friday.
  1. Not boring at all! I just never have anything to add to your crafty posts because I am spectacularly uncrafty. Actually, I want to be crafty, but I have no one to teach me. Now sitting in the kitchen talking while you make food? I am extraordinarily talented at that. ;-)
    PS: that little quilt is just the cutest! you know how much my girlies love their Barbara quilts. :)
  2. Good! I was wondering how that MRI went the other day. I caught the post while out and about and didn't have time to comment, but I sure did have time to pray!
  3. I don't always comment over there, but I love the food blog and would be sad to see it go. Just made your basic-white-sandwich bread the other day, in the Pullman pan. YUM.
    That forest-animal fabric is ADORABLE! And the pearls are beyond gorgeous. I'm sure the rosaries you make with them will be treasured. What a great idea.
  4. Precious quilt and beautiful pearls...I can't wait to see a pic of that rosary! I hope you and Faith feel better and soon! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. My blogging has also been sporadic...as it's hard to blog chasing a one year old that loves being outside. :)
  5. I LOVE your food blog but don't always have time to talk. I use so many of your recipes. You need to keep it....don't delete it....I miss you when you don't post over there.
    I love those earrings, they are really simple and beautiful. That pearl necklace, what a wonderful idea to rejuvenate it.
    I also love that quilt, your baby quilts are the best. You need to know I always take mine with me when I go places to show it off. I have to say that your quilts have been my favorite gifts of all.
  6. Are you kidding? I *love* your crafty posts! Especially when it includes making something for me. haha ;)
    Your work is just so gorgeous. Seriously, you need to stop posting pics because that just makes me want to order more. I, too, love those amazonite beads (I'd love to have a rosary in those someday) and the Miraculous Medal earrings are to die for! The yellow socks are SO cheery and the merino/cashmere looks lusciously soft. I just want to touch it. I'm in love with that baby quilt. Can you be any more talented?! Good grief! The autumn, forest animal theme is right up my alley. I adore it all, Barbara. Well done. I hope your elbow gets back to normal soon. I had that when I did a bunch of socks back to back, too, but then it went away with a bit of a rest between projects. Now if I could only do something about this numbness in my fingers.
    God bless your weekend!
  7. BTW, do *not* get rid of your food blog. Though I don't comment there as much as here, I do check it and read your posts. Plus, your recipes have been such a nice addition to my meal plans and ideas.
  8. I use your food blog for recipes and ideas too, but lately I've been so bad about planning my meals too. I find it easier to keep everything in one blog.
    That yarn is similar to mine, but yours is richer. It's beautiful - the yellow. For the record - I prefer people over computers too, but when people are too far, I'll hop on the computer for a visit. =) I'm still annoyed that you're so far from me. =(
  9. You are one busy (and talented!) lady! Another bright and cheery beautiful quilt! And more gorgeous beadwork! Love that amazonite/bronze combo. The pearls will be very special to work with. Do you think all of the beading affects your elbow as well? I once had bad 'tennis elbow' just from beading. There is a brace you can wear that helped a little. Mine eventually resolved and thankfully it hasn't recurred. Hope you feel better soon. God bless!
  10. Peter and I want to thank you for sharing your talents with us. You are one thoughtful and talented lady.
    Those pearls are simply gorgeous and I would definitely have trouble making the first snip, but just think how beautiful they will be in their new design.
  11. I DO love your creative, newsy posts! But I've been praying and waiting to hear about the health-related developments. I've spent most of the last three days at the hospital with a husband who has a raging infection due to a large kidney stone. They couldn't remove it because of the infection, so they put in a stent and loaded him up on pain meds. I hope you and Joshua have gotten some answers. I'll keep you in my prayers! --- Rosemary
