Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Just two observations on this...

...Saturday before Gaudete Sunday (I'm saving my joy for tomorrow).

1) If God gave us children as sassy nine-year-olds, or sluggish, lazy teens, instead of sweet, cuddly infants, the human race would have died out thousands of years ago. Duh.

2) The only thing worse than putting the lights on the Christmas tree is a stomach virus.

Both of these observations were made while I was putting the lights on the Christmas tree. All the other members of my family were: in time out; playing on an electrical toy/device; or outdoors making the dog bark, utterly ruining my Christmas music, and hence mood indoors.

So...what are you doing on this pre-Gaudete Sunday?

  1. Davey usually puts the lights on our tree, but he is away this year, so I had to do it. Not my favorite job, but I managed it with grace this year, which pleased the children. :-)

We are baking cookies today for a cookie exchange tomorrow. It's really cold out and we also have to go to a birthday party tonight. They said they're feeding us pizza, though, so hopefully, they come through. (You never can tell whether or not people are actually going to feed you, even if they say they are. I almost always feed the family before we go, but I'm taking a chance tonight.)

    Hope your day perks up!

  2. Getting out the decorations and lights. It looks like a holiday store threw up in our living room, lol! Oh, and boxes and bags and packing paper, too. Hubby is working on the outside while I work on the inside. It was getting pretty harry there until we put the baby (almost 2) down for his nap. Now it's fairly peaceful with my Pandora Christmas station playing in the background.

  3. I'm with you. Hubs is cleaning out his work email in-box. None of the kids are home. I am avoiding decorating because it means I have to dust first, and I'm out of Pledge. I am officially declaring it "teatime."

  4. Supervising Dan and Nathan making a school project (a homemade doll of Davey Crockett), trying to settle arguments between the 6 & 7 year old girls.....and last but not least....trying to keep the gauze in my mouth positioned properly while I'm dealing with the effects of a pulled tooth today!

  5. Doing the second of your observations right now;(the stomach virus, not the lights). :( --- Rosemary

  6. Only thing worse? Go re-read my end of pregnancy post!! haha!!

    I'm just kidding.
I needed something at the craft store and I couldn't believe the people there, holy cow!!!!!!

My 7 year old made her first Confession, so it was a special day, and we are all white as snow right now!

  7. Oh yeh, there's lots of things worse ( one of which is vomit in shag carpeting) but you're correct, putting lights on a tree does not make for a happy camper. What did you say?'"rejoice always...again I say rejoice ".

  8. I decluttered most of the dining room table in honor of the Dog Trainer, who didn't set foot in there. We spent the afternoon teaching Gus who's the Boss. It was a lot better than barfing or Christmas lights!

  9. My hubby always does the lights so yeaterday I stayed as far away from the tree as possible. He said he would rather have the stomache flu! I cleaned in preperation for decorating. I must say this morning the lighted tree looks beautiful so today we will be hanging all our precious ornaments. May the JOY of Gaudete Sunday fill your hearts!

  10. Aww..nobody is helping you? We are doing more packing/organizing/eating junk food, lol, and MOVING in 8 days! Craziness. I don't think my mother has decorated anything up there, so we will help her put up the tree the week before Christmas.

  11. Barb, I've been reading your blog for over a year and I just wanted to stop in and say I think you are adorable! I love the way you write, I love the way you mother, I love that you are a REAL person, and I love how you love your faith. If I had to choose only one blog to read for a year...it would be yours. I love your outlook on life. Take good care and I hope you have a blessed Advent. love,
    Joy

  12. Jennie, how sweet of your beloved to put the lights on the tree! I hope you got fed at your party. :-)

Kelly, that's quite a visual and that's just how my living room looked, except it was all lights everywhere!

  13. Christine, I'm not sure if baking is better than putting on lights at this very moment...
    ;-)

Barb, My kids never get that "clean before you decorate" thing.

  14. Nancy, oooh so sorry about the sore tooth.

Rosemary, soooo sorry about the stomach bug. Yuck.

  15. Jamie,
Happy First Confession day -- oh just before Christmas is a good thing. We did that on Saturday too (taking a much-needed break from the lights!).

  16. Anonymous...I said "rejoice" all day yesterday!

  17. Sara, Well I guess you can thank Gus for a good day then. Did you break him?

Ha ha, Carol, I didn't say I'd rather have the stomach flu -- no way! Maybe next time I have the stomach flu I'll say "I'd rather put up Christmas tree lights!"

  18. Elisa, I have a rule, and I guess it's my own fault, but only one person can put on the lights. Now they could help test and untangle, but no, no helpers.

  19. Joy, I think that is the sweetest comment I have ever had (you win the award!). Thank you so very much. I read your comment right before I went to sleep last night and it warmed my heart right down to my toes. Thank you, thank you. You are just too sweet!
