Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Blessed Advent

 .

At the same time this morning I am feeling "Oh no, it's here already -- I'm not ready" and "At last, it's here." Mixed feelings, but it's here, nevertheless, so enjoy it. And we're not supposed to be ready -- that's what it's all about. Getting ready.

For lighting your Advent wreath today, there is a special blessing done by the father of the home; this is one such blessing:

Father of the home:

Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation:
in the darkness and in the light.

Blessed are You in this food and in our sharing.

Blessed are You as we wait in joyful hope
for the coming of Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All respond:
For the kingdom. the power, and the glory are Yours, now and forever.

Father:
Come, Lord Jesus!

All:
Come quickly!

For the prayer to be recited at the daily lighting go to this link (catholic.org).

As you begin your Advent reflections, I'd also like to link to this story of preparation that I posted a few years ago. Our parish seminarian at the time told it in his homily and I so enjoyed it. He now has his own blog where he publishes his homilies -- he is a very good preacher!

By the way, the advent candles in the wreath above are these (the kit), and they are not only simple to make, but they are really lovely candles -- the texture of the candles really adds to the beauty of the wreath.
