Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Summer Flicks: a nun story and a love story

.

Our family Netflix queue, which up to now has been filled with movies we've had no time to watch, is finally getting some use these early summer days. Since my honey and I can both sleep a skosh later in the morning we don't mind staying up later than normal to watch a good movie. The last two nights we enjoyed a nun story and a love story.

The Nun Story was, aptly named, our nun story. This 1959 film starred Audrey Hepburn as a young woman entering the convent in the 1930s, and followed her story as she took her final vows and left to fill her mission as a nurse in the Congo. Hepburn played a fictitious character, but some sources say it was based on the events of an real woman. She struggles with the rules of the order while in the convent and during her mission, and finally leaves the order, not having the strength to continue. It seemed to be an authentic peek at religious life at the time and though it ended on a sad note was a very good movie and worth watching.

Our love story was Bright Star, a story based on the writings of John Keats. The story tells of his romance with Fanny Brawne, and ultimately his illness which separated them. It was filled with beautiful cinematography (akin to Pride and Prejudice), and Keats' own poetry. Though there were a few scenes where the young female character acts ridiculously childish (maybe true to the personality of Brawne) the acting was good and the film definitely worth watching.
